The Landlord collected rent in excess of the amount allowed by the Act and did not pay interest as required. The Tenant is entitled to $1,480.72, which includes $1,400 for excess rent collected, $27.72 for interest on the last month's rent deposit, and $53 for the cost of filing the application.
Tenant applied for an order determining that the Landlord collected or retained money illegally. The Landlord increased the rent beyond the guideline and failed to pay interest on the last month's rent deposit.
Tenant testified that the Landlord has a history of increasing the rent to whatever amount the Landlord wants.
